- 5.0 out of 5 stars from D.M. Bonney -- the origen of everything : Travelling abroad I always have the kindle with me. Browsing Kindle titles I found these books ( vol 1 and 2) by pure chance. I have read the Origin of Species with a kind of veneration but also impressed by the clarity and logic of his arguments. I did not know much about his personal life and less about how he built himself as a scientist. The book first part is CD telling about his father, siblings, family and friends. The letters tells about a young man in the uni, a little lost and without a clue about what he was going to do with his life. The following letters tell how he found himself during the 4 years and half Beagle voyage. There are hundreds of letters to friends and other scientists colleagues through all his life. The letters are wonderful to read, there are a lot of humour, but also doubts, enthusiasm, hopes, and mainly passion. As if C. Darwin was sending the letters directly to you, a friend.
